Sales shrink at Journal Register

Revenue for the second four-week period of the year at Journal Register Co. , publisher of The Middletown Press, New Britain Herald and The Bristol Press among others, fell 5.7 percent to $35.7 million compared with the same period a year earlier when sales were $37.9 million. National advertising revenues, which represent less than five percent of total advertising revenue, fell by almost 24 percent in the period. Classified advertising revenue fell by more than 9 percent. Online revenue, however, grew by 23 percent to $1.2 million, as the company’s Web sites racked up 30 million page views and 3.7 million unique visitors.
