Staples got off to what it called a “good start” in the first quarter, with sales increasing 4 percent over last year and profits increasing 32 percent to $189 million, the Framingham-based company said.
Sales for the office supplies retailer increased from $5.8 billion last year to $6.1 billion.
Retail sales for the company increased 6 percent to $2.3 billion while international sales increased 6 percent to $1.3 billion. Deliveries were up 2 percent to $2.5 billion.
The company expects sales and profits to continue to rise by single digits in the second quarter of the year. Staples operates 1,888 office supplies stores in North America.
