Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester is expanding its sleep study lab to allow more patients to have their sleep analyzed in the comfort of their own homes.
The hospital announced on Monday it will use new technology from Itamar Medical, an Israeli medical device company, that allows physicians and cardiologists the ability to better identify, evaluate, and treat sleep disorders found inherent in a significant population of atrial fibrillation and heart failure patients. The program uses Itamar's WatchPAT, which the company says is the only approved disposable home sleep apnea test.
The coronavirus pandemic has caused sleep disruption for many, with Americans more likely to seek sleep-help medications early in the pandemic and studies showing worsening quality of sleep during the outbreak, according to Neurology Today, the news arm of the American Academy of Neurology.
