Saint Vincent offers aquablation treatment for enlarged prostates

Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester is the first hospital in Central Massachusetts to offer aquablation treatment for people with enlarged prostates, the hospital announced on Monday.

The therapy is performed by a robotic system using water to provide long-lasting symptom relief.

The treatment is minimally invasive and provides symptom relief with low rates of irreversible complications for those with enlarged prostates, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH, the hospital said in its announcement.

“Aquablation is an exciting new minimally invasive addition to our expanding urological program that can help improve our patients’ quality of life,” said CEO Carolyn Jackson, in a statement.

One in two men between the ages of 51 and 60 have BPH, according to Saint Vincent.
