Saint Vincent Hospital names new CEO

Saint Vincent Hospital has named a new CEO in Carolyn Jackson, who will also oversee operations for parent company Tenet Healthcare across Massachusetts.

Jackson was most recently the COO for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, an 800-bed academic medical center in Philadelphia. In that role, which she began in 2015, she led improvements in operational performance and strategic growth, and supervised several large construction projects for the University of Pennsylvania Health System, according to Tenet, which announced Jackson’s appointment Monday.

She begins at Saint Vincent on May 20.

Jackson started her career with Dallas-based Tenet, a hospital system that owns both Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester and MetroWest Medical Center, which has campuses in Framingham and Natick. She held various leadership roles with the company, Tenet said, including more recently as CEO of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.

Jackson succeeds Jeffrey Welch, who led Tenet’s Massachusetts operations for about a year. He left that post last July to oversee Tenet hospitals in the Miami area, where he worked before moving to Massachusetts.

Saint Vincent’s chief operating officer, Ava Jo Collins, was interim CEO since.

MetroWest Medical Center has also had turnover in its top position.

Jeffrey Liebman resigned as CEO last August after about a year on the job and was replaced by Andrew Harding. Harding, who first took that post on an interim basis, was previously MetroWest’s chief nursing officer.
