Saint Vincent honors doctors of the year

A geriatrician and a cardiologist have been named the doctors of the year by Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester.

The hospital’s chief of rheumatology, Dr. Robert Yood, won the hospital’s lifetime achievement award after more than three decades practicing medicine.

All three were honored at the hospital’s annual medical staff dinner on March 23, Saint Vincent announced Monday.

Dr. Gary Blanchard, a geriatrician who specializes in treating older patients with a variety of health issues, and Dr. Joseph Hannan, an interventional cardiologist who specializes in using a minimally invasive approach to treating coronary artery disease and vascular problems, were named the co-doctors of the year. They were nominated by other physicians and chosen by a selection committee. The award recognizes physicians who play a key role in the successful administration or management of a department or program.

Saint Vincent also honored the outgoing medical staff president, Dr. Susan George.
