Saint-Gobain Increases Solar Film Capabilities

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics has expanded its extrusion facility in Worcester, allowing it to more than double the amount of film it can produce for solar panels.

The company said that the installation of new equipment in the facility will allow it to meet an increasing demand for a fluoropolymer films, which are used as a light-weight, protective coating on solar panels.

The company can now supply the solar panel market with films at widths up to 80 inches and with varying levels of thickness.

As part of the expansion, Saint-Gobain has also added capacity for a proprietary surface treatment for fluoropolymers.
