RXi Pharmaceuticals Corp. of Worcester has hired Ramani Varanasi as vice president of business development and promoted Stephen DiPalma and Joanne Kamens to new executive positions.
In her new position, Varanasi will help develop RXi's business partnerships.
Ramani previously served as head of business development at Archemix Corp., building alliances including a $600 million partnership with Merck Serono. Before that, she worked for nine years at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, in various management positions and served as director of corporate development at Momenta Pharmaceuticals.
She has a B.S. in microbiology and immunology and an M.A. in biochemistry from McGill University and an MBA from Northeastern University.
DiPalma, RXi's CFO, added executive vice president of business operations to his title. The new position makes him responsible for operational, development and strategic planning.
Before joining RXi in 2007, DiPalmawas the founder, president and CEO of Catalyst Oncology Inc. He has an MBA from Babson College and a B.S. in finance and information systems from the University of Massachusetts.
Joanne Kamens, formerly director of discovery research, is now senior director of discovery. In her new position, she leads the company's research group in evaluating new compounds and delivery techniques. She joined RXi in 2007 after working at Abbott as a group leader in molecular biology. She has a B.A. in biology from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in genetics from Harvard University.
