Marijuana grower and retailer CommCan, Inc. will open its Millis recreational cannabis dispensary on Wednesday, as the family-owned business has received the letter to commence operations from the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission.
"The Millis location is very special to us," said CEO Marc Rosenfeld. "This is the town my grandfathered settled in when he moved to this country."
Marc Rosenfeld, a native of Millis, co-owns the company with his siblings Ellen and Jon Rosenfeld. Unlike the majority of other marijuana retailers in the state, CommCan has no other investors and is not part of a multi-state operating firm.
"We started this process about 4.5 years ago, and it is very rewarding to now open," Marc Rosenfeld said.
The Millis location is CommCan's first recreational dispensary. It has a medical dispensary in Southborough and a cultivation and process facility in Medway.
Between the three locations, the company has nearly 80 employees, about 35 of whom were hired to run the Millis dispensary.
The Millis location eventually will serve both the recreational and medical market, and Rosenfeld said he expects the approval for the medical side by the end of November.
