Riverdale Mills Corp., a welded wire mesh manufacturer in Northbridge, was awarded the John McArthur Community Commerce Innovation Award from the Venly Institute in Cambridge, the company announced Nov. 24.
The award honors local businesses who serve as role models for the country on community commerce best practices. Riverdale was specifically singled out for its partnerships with local businesses, municipalities and, specifically, the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce Education Hub.
“I’ve seen what the next industrial revolution could look like if we engage students of all ages with all our community resources,” said Venly Founding Chair Andrea Jung. “Riverdale grew from the start with its internships and training of students from the Blackstone Valley Vocational Technical High School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The company embodies the hands-on skills development the entire country needs to expand.”
The Ed Hub is an organization based in Northbridge, which operates as a training center to help high school and post-secondary students, young adults, and workers changing careers get a leg up in the advanced manufacturing sector. The organization provides training and credentialing.
Riverdale Mills has committed itself to hiring graduates of the Ed Hub’s programing, as soon as participating students receive the necessary manufacturing certificates, according to a press release from Riverdale.
