The Rhode Island office design and furniture firm Sheehans will open a new 5,000-square-foot showroom in downtown Worcester by January.
Sheehans, which is headquartered in Portsmouth, has been doing business in Worcester for years but wanted to set up a permanent office and showroom in the city because of all the economic activity downtown, said Michael Monahan, vice president for strategic accounts.
The company has yet to finalize the lease for a space it is sharing with a prominent Worcester company, Monahan said, but the space will be in the 120 Front St. tower in the Mercantile Center. He declined to provide financial details.
Sheehans specializes in building office environments that help coworkers collaborate and learn form each other, Monahan said. The old version of offices with walled-off cubical spaces are being replaced by more modern offices with open spaces and glass walls to let in more natural light.
