R.I. Manufacturer Weighs Worcester Move

A Rhode Island-based maker of electrical generation equipment wants to establish Worcester as its base, the company said in a statement.

Powerdyne International, which also installs, maintains and leases its own portable electrical power generation equipment, said it made a formal presentation to officials at the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, including President and CEO Timothy Murray.

Powerdyne, which is based in Warwick, said its CEO, Dale Euga, is eyeing Worcester because of the city’s “multiple” transportation assets and to take advantage of the area’s available labor force. Euga said that, geographically, Worcester’s transportation infrastructure is ideal, allowing the company’s products to be moved easily to interstate and international customers by air, rail or road.

At the end of the presentation, which took place last month, Euga said that Murray offered to ask city officials to assist with the company’s efforts, the Powerdyne statement said. “The company anticipates a more detailed list of space to be made available to them from the mayor’s office shortly,” the statement read.

W. Stuart Loosemore, the chamber’s director of government affairs and public policy, said Powerdyne employs about 15 to 20 but would like to grow to a point where it employs about 200, split between two shifts. The company is “still kind of getting off the ground,” he said.

Powerdyne also has a manufacturing center in West Bridgewater, according to its website. Loosemore believes the company wants to consolidate operations from both sites in Worcester.

During the meeting, Loosemore found about a dozen potential sites where Powerdyne could locate, he said, and he asked city officials for information on other potential sites.

While no timetable for the move was discussed during the meeting, Loosemore said, “I think they’re ready to go kind of sooner rather than later.”
