R.H. White Companies, an Auburn construction services and utility management firm, has appointed a new president and CEO to succeed the founder's grandson.
Jim McCarthy, a 34-year veteran of R.H. White, served as chief operating officer since 2011. His appointment to president and CEO began May 1.
McCarthy replaces David White, the third member of the White family to lead the company. Ralph H. White founded the firm in 1923, and his son Leonard White also ran it. David White, the founder's grandson, served as president and CEO since 1989 and now serves as board chairman and treasurer.
R.H. White has had its hands in an array of Central Massachusetts projects, including the YMCA of Central Massachusetts' main branch in Worcester and Waters Corp. headquarters in Milford. It specializes in public water and wastewater facilities, including for the Milford and Whitinsville water companies.
Under R.H. White's new leadership, McCarthy will work closely with fourth-generation family members in leading the growth of the company. White will focus on strategic direction and developing the future board and corporate governance structure, the company said.
McCarthy, an Army veteran, has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from UMass Amherst and completed Worcester Polytechnic Institute's senior executive program. He serves on the board of directors of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts.
