ReWalk Robotics, the Marlborough-based maker of exoskeleton systems for paraplegics, released the sixth-generation version of its exoskeleton this week.
The ReWalk Personal 6.0 offers key benefits to those with spinal cord injuries, according to a release from the company, such as the fastest walking speed and most precise fit among exoskeletons. This is the latest version of the FDA cleared exoskeleton. The design features the removal of a backpack that was in place in previous units, eliminating weight from the shoulders and providing more freedom for clothing choice.
“The enhanced design of the 6.0 offers highly customized fittings, and software to better match the size and anatomy of each individual user, providing a better walking experience than any prior design and over any other known products in clinical trials around the world," ReWalk CEO Larry Jasinski said in a statement.
ReWalk is the only exoskeleton manufacturer in the United States with FDA clearances for both its personal and rehabilitation systems, according to the company.
The company has hit important milestones recently, including coverage deals with commercial insurers and government payers in Germany and the U.S. and increasing its first quarter revenue 43 percent over the first quarter of 2014.
