An index of residential remodeling hit the highest point in June since its creation in 2004.
The Residential BuildFax Remodeling Index, which measures building permits for residential remodeling jobs, hit 129.5 for the month. That represented a 23-percent year-over-year increase.
The index also rose 4 percent from May. It typically hits a seasonal high in August.
BuildFax, the division of BUILDERadius that publishes the index, says remodeling is on the rise as more people stay put in their houses and decide to make improvements in lieu of getting a new place.
The index was set at 100 in April 2004.
