Report: Schools Need More Career Focus

The Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education is calling for big changes in the state's high schools.

A new report released by the group calls for a greater focus on career goals in high school, more time in the classroom and alternatives to a four-year schedule for students who need it.

It says graduation standards should be higher, and students should have more opportunities for real-world learning in work or service environments, with more cooperation between schools and businesses.

It also calls for more testing, including "exit assessments" to measure college and career readiness and standardized tests at the end of individual courses.
