Maynard-based Monster Worldwide Inc. released its biannual Veterans Talent Index Thursday, which showed that many veterans lack confidence about finding a job in the civilian workforce.
Two-thirds of veterans reported they believe job skills they acquired in the military are transferable to the business world, but 78 percent said they're not confident about finding a job that fits their abilities. And the report found that veterans' confidence about finding a job has dropped 7 percent in the past six months.
Forty-three percent of respondents said they feel prepared for the career transition from the military, down from 53 percent last year.
Hiring prospects for veterans are more positive, however. The Veterans Talent Index showed that 69 percent of employers surveyed had hired more than on veteran within the past year. And nearly all surveyed employers who hired them said veterans' job performance was as good or better than that of non-veteran employees. Ninety-nine percent said they would recommend hiring a veteran.
The number of veterans searching for job is expected in increase in the next 12 months, according to the index, to 82 percent from 69 percent a year ago.
