The Worcester metro area saw the greatest year-to-year increase in median home prices in the country last year, among metropolitan areas with at least 200,000 residents, according to the Year-End 2021 U.S. Home Sales Report, released Thursday by California-based property data company ATTOM.
The company reviewed data from sales deeds, foreclosure filings, and loans from 173 U.S. metropolitan areas, according to a press release.Â
The overall median house price in the Worcester metro area rose 39.6% in 2021, far above the national average of 16.9%, according to the report. Barnstable and Boston also had an above average increase of 39.2% and 28.8%, coming in second and third, respectively.Â
Nationally, housing has exceeded all-time highs, with the median-priced home sale profit at $94,092, up 45% from 2020’s $64,931.Â
Only four metropolitan areas of the 173 surveyed saw a decrease in median house price, with Gulfport, Miss. at the lowest with -4.9%.Â
