Employers could be doing a lot more than they are to attract and hire the best candidates for their openings, according to a new report by Staffing.org.
The 2009 Job Seekers Attitudes and Behaviors Report finds that potential employees are frustrated by the information available about job openings and by the process of applying for a job and communicating with recruitment staff.
Online advertising may allow companies to reach out to far more job seekers than ever before, but it doesn't necessarily increase the number of qualified applicants.
The report says that many companies write their job ads in the same formats they used 10 or 15 years ago, rather than providing more targeted information to attract job seekers using Internet search systems. Once potential employees do apply, it says, many are frustrated by the lack of response from employers.
Ultimately, the report says, many candidates want more information than they are getting from potential employers. The Internet can help companies provide better two-way communication with them, but it requires new procedures and a willingness to take advantage of available technology.
