According to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey, 18 percent of companies surveyed said they’d be hiring in the second quarter of 2007.
That figure is a continuation of a slow decline among U.S. companies. According to the survey, 19 percent of companies surveyed said they’d be hiring in the first quarter of the year.
Manpower, which is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin surveys about 14,000 U.S. companies about their hiring plans every quarter.
Manpower’s numbers are the percentage of firms planning to hire minus those intending layoffs.
For about three years, about 20 percent of firms have reported plans to hire.
