AeA, the American Electronics Association, has ranked Boston fourth in the nation in high-tech employment.
The ranking is part of the organization's Cybercities 2008, which ranks the top 60 high-tech cities by employment. According to AeA, 191,700 people were employed in Boston's tech sector in 2006, a year in which the city added 4,100 tech jobs.
According to the report, Boston tech employment was greatest in computer systems design and services, which employed 41,000 and research, development and testing, which employed 38,500. Boston ranked first in the nation in employment in measuring and control instruments and manufacturing, with 18,000 jobs.
The cities that beat out Boston in the annual ranking were New York, Washington, D.C., and San Jose/Silicon Valley, Calif.
