German and Milford-based biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing company Rentschler Biopharma SE launched a training program with Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation and Worcester Polytechnic Institute to train people to rejoin the workforce with skills that translate to biotech manufacturing jobs.
The goal of the program is to create a pipeline for workers to get into the life sciences career track, and the program's first group of students recently finished the program and started working at Rentschler Biopharma in Milford, according to the company’s announcement Wednesday.
“The workforce training program we have undertaken with WPI and MassBioEd is truly a win-win situation, enabling people from underrepresented communities to enter careers in the biotech space while supporting our need to bring in new talent,” Mark Caswell, Vice President, Site Head, Rentschler Biopharma, said in a statement.
The apprenticeship program involved eight weeks of MassBioEd curriculum and another eight weeks at WPI’s Biomanufacturing Education and Training Center to learn the fundamentals of biotech production.
Half of the class of 10 students started at Rentschler Biopharma in September and the remaining five at the end of November.
