Rentschler Biopharma SE, a contract development and manufacturing company for biopharmaceuticals, has hired two executives for its facility in Milford.
Hemant Kumar has been hired as the vice president for process sciences. Lorraine Blackman has been hired as the head of U.S. human resources. These are newly created positions and both will be part of the senior leadership team at the company’s U.S. site.
Kumar brings more than 20 years of experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and will lead the upstream, downstream and analytical process development and technical services teams. Hemant joins Rentschler Biopharma from San Diego-based AnaptysBio, where he was senior vice president for process development & manufacturing operations.
Blackman has nearly 20 years of human resources and operations experience and will lead all aspects of human resources recruitment, training and retention at the Milford site and drive the U.S. integration. Prior to joining Rentschler Biopharma, Lorraine was director of human resources for North America at a biopharmaceutical contract manufacturer.
Rentschler Biopharma purchased the site in January with plans to continue manufacturing for Ireland drugmaker Shire at the facility. The site was the company’s first outside of Germany.
At the time, the company announced plans to grow the development and manufacturing site as a contract development and manufacturing organization for complex biopharmaceuticals. The 93,000-square-foot biomanufacturing facility on Maple Street was acquired in 2016 by Shire as part of its merger with California biotech firm Baxalta.
