Reliant Medical Group will knock down the former Price Chopper grocery store off Route 9 in Shrewsbury and build a new medical office facility, the owner of the plaza said Tuesday.
Reliant will build a 32,000-square-foot facility in its place that is scheduled to open by March 2019.
Fairlawn Plaza includes the restaurants Imperial Buffet and Udupi but otherwise has several vacancies. It is being rebranded as MarketPlace Shrewsbury, said Shrewsbury developer Plaza Properties, the owner of the center.
Demolition of the former grocery store is expected to start in April. The Price Chopper at 380 Maple Ave. closed in 2010 when the chain opened a new location two miles east at 731 Boston Turnpike.
The new Shrewsbury location will be the latest in which Worcester-based Reliant has moved into a former commercial space.
Reliant has opened an office at Bay State Commons in Westborough at a former Linens 'n Things, and at a former Sports Authority in Milford, and is renovating a former Macy's home department store at the Auburn Mall into another office. With the Auburn Mall plans, Reliant will vacate its existing Auburn medical offices at 35 Millbury St. and at 94 Elm St. in Millbury.
