Worcester-based Reliant Medical Group and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS University) have teamed up to offer a new residency program for family nurse practitioners and physician assistants, the company’s announced jointly at an event on Thursday.
The program, which will launch in spring 2015, is designed to prepare recent graduates for employment in a primary care setting. This is the first residency program for advanced practitioners in Massachusetts that trains physician assistants and nurse practitioners in primary care as opposed to the typical specialty training, the organizations said.
Under the supervision and mentorship of existing Reliant advanced practitioners and physicians, as well as MCPHS University faculty, residents will work with patients in a variety of clinical settings, while also attending weekly lectures over the course of the year-long program, according to Reliant and MCPHS.
For the duration of the program, residents will be employed as full-time staff by Reliant and will be offered a pro-rated benefits package that includes paid time off, health insurance, a retirement plan, disability and life insurance, reimbursement for licensure expenses and student loan repayment eligibility after second year if hired into permanent position, the companies said.
