The Reliant Foundation in Worcester has distributed more than $700,000 to 56 nonprofits operating in Central Massachusetts and the MetroWest area, surpassing its giving goal for the year, the nonprofit announced on Wednesday.
The nonprofit, which typically supports mental and behavioral health and recovery programs, announced earlier this year it hoped to distribute at least $700,000 to area organizations. Most recently, the Reliant Foundation distributed more than $475,000 during its latest round of funding, on top of almost $225,000 in COVID emergency grants distributed earlier in the year, according to the nonprofit.
Kelsa Zereski, Reliant Foundation president, said the organization received a record number of requests from nonprofits this year.
“In the initial stages of the pandemic, many of our grantees found themselves having to make significant adjustments to their programming and service models in expedient fashion,” Zereski said in a statement. “Fortunately, Reliant Foundation was able to provide the necessary financial support at that time, while maintaining our commitment to delivering this round of annual fall grants.”
This is the second year in a row the Reliant Foundation has surpassed $700,000 in grant distributions, according to the organization.
The Reliant Foundation was founded as part of Worcester-based Reliant Medical Group but was spun off as an independent nonprofit in 2018 after Reliant was purchased by Minnesota health conglomerate UnitedHealthcare.
