A Worcester physician has been named an “Immunization Champion” by the Massachusetts Adult Immunization Coalition for his efforts to improve vaccination rates.
Dr. Lloyd D. Fisher, a physician with Reliant Medical Group in Worcester, was honored by the coalition, along with the nursing staff at Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, for “outstanding contributions” to boosting adult immunization in Massachusetts, according to a statement Tuesday from the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS), which leads the coalition.
Nominated by his colleagues, Fisher, who is assistant medical director for Informatics at Reliant, incorporated tools into Reliant’s electronic health records system to improve on-time vaccination rates for all of the group’s 300,000 patients, the MMS said.
Fisher also served as principal investigator for a study evaluating the reasons adults don’t get flu and pneumonia shots, the MMS said. The findings led to automated methods to remind patients of scheduled vaccinations, giving Reliant some of the highest immunization rates in the nation.
The awards will be presented at the Massachusetts Adult Immunization Conference in Marlborough on April 25.
