Redemption Rock to begin selling beer in cans

PHOTO/ALLAN JUNG Redemption Rock CEO Dani Babineau (right), with head of marketing Dan Carlson, believes with the proper support, Worcester can become a well-known beer town.

After making its brews available only on tap since launching in January, the Worcester beermaker Redemption Rock Brewing Co. is offering four packs of War Castle, its flagship New England India Pale Ale and Three Decker, a new helles lager, a traditional pale German beer.

“Customers have been asking for it, and it’s something we want to get a bit more of our beer to people,” said Dan Carlson, the brewing company’s spokesman.

The four-pack NEIPA cost $16 and Three Decker is listed at $14. The cans will be available at the taproom until they sell out, Redemption Rock said. Artwork for the cans were created by Danielle Brooks, an artist and designer based in Georgia.

The growing craft brewing market has brought more small brewers in Central Massachusetts and beyond to sell its beer in cans. In May, Altruist Brewing Co., a small brewer in Sturbridge, made its beer available in cans. Flying Dreams Brewing Co. in Worcester began doing so late last year, and Moon Hill Brewing did in 2017.

Others are expanding their existing production facilities. Medusa Brewing in Hudson is planning a $5.5-million canning facility, and Wachusett Brewing Co. in Westminster said last year it is planning an expansion that would double its production capacity.
