Red Bend Software partners with Italian firm

Red Bend Software, a Framingham firm specializing in mobile phone software, has partnered with Italy-based Telit Wireless Solutions to license its vCurrent Mobile software for use in Telit's m2m product line.

Telit develops m2m, or machine-to-machine, celluar technology.  The m2m sector is expected to reach 500 million modules deployed and be worth $285 billion by 2010.  The non-exclusive agreement represents significant new market opportunities for Red Bend in the growing segment.  By using Red Bend's Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) updating software, Telit can reduce the number of on-site visits for its customers, only requiring such visits for hardware-related failures.

Prior to the agreement, software updates for Telit's m2m applications were performed through manual field software updates.  By using Red Bend's FOTA software, Telit will benefit from cost-efficient remote application maintenance, and improved reliability of the m2m modules.  Red Bend's software allows for wireless reflashing of the firmware installed on mobile devices, ensuring that those devices have the latest updates and enhancements.

"The savings in cost and even human safety with FOTA capability in m2m devices is compelling," said Yoram Salinger, CEO of Red Bend Software.  "For instance, a utility provider will save an average of $50 to not have to 'roll a truck' for an individual service call and instead, can provide mass software updates to any number of devices remotely."
