Rectrix Breaks Ground On Worcester Airport Facility

Bedford-based Rectrix Aviation celebrated the groundbreaking of its $6.7-million project at Worcester Regional Airport today at an event with state and local officials.

Approved by the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) in January 2012, the Rectrix project includes 27,000-square-feet of hangar and office space at the airport that will accommodate large corporate aircraft such as the Gulfstream 650 and Global 7000, the company said in a statement. Construction is slated to take two years with the facility being built to energy efficient LEED Silver certification standards.

The Rectrix, which offers private jet services, will provide support services such as aircraft parking, fueling, maintenance and hangar facilities at the Worcester airport. A similar facility is also being constructed at L.G. Hanscom Field in Bedford. The Worcester facility will include a regional aircraft maintenance facility that is expected to establish the airport as a destination for aircraft maintenance, Rectrix said in a statement.

The Worcester and Bedford developments will add 100 jobs, including flight crews, with about 30 expected to be at the Worcester airport.

The groundbreaking was attended by several officials including Rep. James McGovern, City Manager Michael O'Brien, Massport CEO Thomas Glynn and Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Tim Murray.
