Central Massachusetts has added two more recreational marijuana shops in Ayer and Millbury after the state Cannabis Control Commission authorized stores in those towns to open.
Nature’s Remedy, Millbury’s first recreational pot shop and the eighth to open in Central Massachusetts, will open Friday just off of Route 146.
The store is the fifth in Worcester County, joining Cultivate in Leicester, Good Chemistry in Worcester, Caroline’s Cannabis in Uxbridge and Sanctuary Medicinals in Uxbridge.
Purchases at Nature’s Remedy are available via appointment only for the first few weeks to minimize wait times and congestion.
“The Town of Millbury has been a great partner throughout this process, and we want to be respectful of the community and our neighbors,” said Founder and President Robert Carr. “Opening by appointment only allows us to evaluate traffic and have a controlled rollout.”
Meanwhile, Gage Cannabis in Ayer opened its doors to adult-use customers on Monday, joining a growing MetroWest cannabis market that includes Temescal Wellness in Hudson, Garden Remedies in Marlborough.
The company was founded by John Hillier, executive director of medical dispensary Central Ave Compassionate Care in Ayer.
"Whether a customer is new or well versed, we have used our years of experience to create a unique level of quality and service for the retail consumer,” Hillier said in a statement. “In opening Gage, it is equally important for us to continue to meet the needs of the patient community at the medical marijuana dispensary, which was key reason we choose separate locations.”
Dozens more are on the way for Central Massachusetts, including at least eight more in Worcester with licenses pending before the CCC.
Statewide, there are more than 200 retail applications filed with the commission.
