Record Applications For WPI
Worcester Polytechnic Institute says it has received a record number of applicants for the undergraduate Class of 2016.
The university said it has gotten more than 7,500 applications, a 7-percent increase over last year's total, which already represented a record. WPI said applications have grown 33 percent over the last five years.
Applications for graduate programs at the school jumped 27 percent over last year to 3,800. The number is also a 180-percent increase from five years ago.
The university said some of its newest programs, in the biomedical, robotics, interactive media and game development and environmental fields, have seen double-digit increases in student majors.
