Realtors: Uncertainty Rules Mass. Housing Market

The Massachusetts Association of Realtors' Realtor Market Index was down for the second straight month in July.

The index finished the month at 28.15, a 26-percent decline from the same month a year ago and down less than 1 percent from June. The association considers a score of 50 the midpoint between a "strong" or "weak" housing market.

MAR's price index was down 6 percent from a year ago and up 1 percent from June.

Realtors felt less certain about market conditions in July than they did over the spring, MAR said. The association said the end of federal tax credits for homebuyers, uncertainty about the economy and hot weather contributed to the lackluster results.
