DigitalArt

After a 12-year hiatus, Raytheon will once again design and engineer satellite communication networks for the U.S. Air Force out of its Marlborough facility.

The Waltham-based defense contractor beat out Chicago-based Boeing for a $298 million contract to make satellite dishes that can be installed in Air Force planes and maintain secure communications in the event of a serious attack.

The designing and engineering of these communication dishes will take place in Marlborough, while production work will occur near Tampa, Fla. Money for the project has been allocated from the fiscal 2013 to the fiscal 2019 defense budgets, according to a company statement.
