An annual survey commissioned by defense contractor Raytheon, with offices in Central Massachusetts, has found Millennials remain unprepared for and uninterested in pursuing careers in the cybersecurity field.

The survey found Millennials are engaging in riskier online behaviors now than in 2013. Additionally, the survey showed 43 percent of the respondents believe the final outcome of the 2016 U.S. presidential election was influenced by cyber attacks.

“These findings echo national sentiments as a recent string of large-scale data breaches has shaken the public's confidence in the security of critical information and infrastructure,” Raytheon said in a press release Tuesday.

The study found Millennials are now more aware of potential cybersecurity careers than they were in 2013, but only 38 percent of Millennials were more willing to consider a career in cybersecurity than a year ago which is unchanged from last year.

Globally, 63 percent of respondents click on links even if they aren’t sure of the source, and the proportion of U.S. young adults who share passwords with non-family members has nearly doubled to 39 percent in 2017.

Also, 74 percent of respondents said they use unsecured public Wi-Fi because it’s convenient, even though security risks are well documented.
