Raytheon Company, a major defense contractor with operations in Marlborough, said testing of an important component of a GPS operational control system it is developing for the U.S. Air Force is complete.

In a statement Tuesday, Raytheon said testing of the Launch and Checkout System (LCS) component of the GPS system, known as GPS OCX, showed that it’s “well on its way to meeting U.S. Air Force requirements.” According to Raytheon, the GPS OCX system will modernize GPS for the U.S. Air Force, and has applications for both civilian and military users, with the potential to “dramatically increased performance and security of the GPS system that benefits millions of people worldwide.”

Testing of the LSC portion of the system took place at Raytheon’s Aurora, Colo. facility. Additional testing of the GPS OCX system is needed before the system is delivered later this year.
