Raytheon Company, which has operations in Marlboro, has successfully completed the Delta Interim Detailed Design Review for the DDG 1000 Integrated Deckhouse and Apertures (IDHA) element, set to be installed on the Navy’s next generation multi-mission destroyer.
The review took place at Raytheon’s Sudbury-based Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Sensors and Surveillance Center. The IDHA element is responsible for the integration design of apertures antenna arrays for functions such as radars and communications. This requires flush mounting of the arrays on the deckhouse to ensure that the destroyer meets stealth requirements per its duties as a multi-mission vessel.
In the review, the IDHA element received confirmation that all design and performance requirements were defined and that the design will meet those requirements.
With this latest round of approval, Raytheon moves closer to production of the IDHA element. Fabrication and installation of the apertures is anticipated to start in mid-2008, after a production readiness review is completed next year.
