Railroad construction firm fined for improper pay in Framingham

A New York-based rail system construction company has been fined $220,000 to resolve allegations it failed to pay proper overtime rates to workers on public works projects in Framingham, Cape Cod, and the Berkshires, the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General announced Tuesday.

The attorney general’s citation is for improperly paying employees’ overtime and failing to submit accurate payroll records on five projects in Hyannis, Falmouth, Framingham, Great Barrington, Lee, Lenox, Pittsfield, Sheffield, and Stockbridge.

Railworks Track Systems, Inc. was involved with a project on the Mass Coastal Railroad, which stretches 150 miles from Framingham to Hyannis, according to the company’s website.

The Attorney General’s Office began investigating Railworks Track Systems in 2020 after receiving a referral from the Foundation for Fair Contracting of Massachusetts, alleging the company was improperly paying its employees. More than 80 workers were affected, the AG alleged.
