Vibram Pet Products, which are made in North Brookfield by Quabaug Corp., has donated $11,500 to a program that trains service dogs.
Specifically, the company's donation will go to Dog Tags, a program that provides service dogs to injured American veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. The dogs in the program come from Puppies Behind Bars, an organization that employs inmates as trainers of guide dogs, law enforcement dogs and assistance dogs for the disabled.
The organization started the Dog Tags program in 2006.
To come up with the donation, rubber shoe sole manufacturer Vibram donated $2 from every sale of red, white and blue "Chewy Shoe" dog toys to Puppies Behind Bars. The Vibram donations were matched by footwear manufacturer Danner.
Quabaug Corp. is the exclusive North American manufacturer of Vibram products, including shoe soles and pet products.
