Marlborough’s Qteros and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst have received a patent related to a new way of producing biofuels.
Researchers for the company and the university hope the new process will decrease the cost of producing ethanol and make it more efficient to create and use biofuels. The process uses microorganisms to streamline the creation of ethanol, which can be used as a fuel.
Qteros officials worked with members of UMass’s microbiology departments on the patent. The company develops clean transportation fuels using a microbe found in the Quabbin Reservoir.
