Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester will continue teaching classes online for the Fall 2020 semester, the school announced on Tuesday.

QCC President Luis Pedraja said the decision was made to ensure students, faculty and staff remain safe.

“We did not make this decision lightly," Pedraja said in a statement. "The administration felt this was in the best interest of the QCC community with the continued uncertainty of COVID-19."

Some classes requiring in-person sessions, like labs, will still take place on campus, so long as it is safe, the school said.

Making the decision now will allow for less interruption, should there be another major coronavirus outbreak in the fall, Pedraja said.

“This pandemic is one that is transforming how we look at higher education,” Pedraja said. “Right now, no one knows what the future holds and while we all want to be optimistic, we must be cognizant that our world may be forever changed. Making smart higher education decisions now will pay off substantially in the future.”
