Quinsigamond Community College received a $975,000 federal grant to purchase new technology, which will combine online and classroom learning.
The HyFlex Technology System, which stands for hybrid flexible, will enable professors to teach in-person and remote students at the same time, according to a Sunday press release from the Worcester college.
The grant provides enough funding to offer HyFlex technology in 25 classrooms.
“This technology will be a game-changer for so many students who otherwise would be unable to attend in-person classes,” said QCC President Luis Pedraja, in a written statement.
Remote learning became an institution during the coronavirus pandemic, but has continued its popularity despite colleges’ return to in-person learning. QCC was one of the most resilient local community colleges during the pandemic, as it was the only community college whose freshman enrollment rate did not fall from 2019 to 2021.
