Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester on Tuesday announced the National Science Foundation had awarded it a $298,108 grant to develop a new robotics technician certificate program.

QCC this summer will establish a team to identify the robotics needs of Central Massachusetts employers and then design the certificate program around industry needs. The goal is to have the pilot program in place within three years.

Robotics education is already a part of QCC's manufacturing and mechatronics programs, although it is not a stand-alone certificate program.

Underrepresented QCC student populations will directly benefit from the program, and other targeted beneficiaries include 400 pre-college and undergraduate students interested in robotics technology.
