The College of Marin in Kentfield, Calif. named Quinsigamond Community College President Luis Pedraja as one of the final three candidates for its next superintendent and president, as the QCC president looks west to rejoin his family.
Pedraja, who has been QCC president since 2017, would replace Superintendent and President David Wain Coon upon his retirement at the end of 2023.
Pedraja was scheduled for a College of Marin campus visit on Monday, with all three finalists interviewing with the board of trustees scheduled for Tuesday. On Friday, public forum sessions will be made available on the school’s presidential search website, according to a press release from the College of Marin.
The Worcester Guardian first reported news of Pedraja’s job search on Monday.
The position was posted from June 1 through July 28, according to the presidential search website. A decision by the board of trustees will be announced in October or November, with the anticipated start being January 2024.
QCC Board of Trustees Chair Linda Maykel issued a statement received by WBJ on Tuesday:
“The President of Quinsigamond Community College, Dr. Luis G. Pedraja, is as committed today to moving the college forward as he was yesterday. However, for personal family reasons he has made the difficult decision to consider another possible professional opportunity that is closer to his family. Regardless of the outcome, this in no way will impact the amazing work that the president, college administration, faculty, and staff have accomplished and will continue to accomplish in the days and weeks ahead. The QCC Board of Trustees fully supports President Pedraja as he continues to lead the College in achieving its highest potential.”
Pedraja has served as president of QCC since 2017. He was named a Business Leader of the Year by WBJ in 2021 and was named to WBJ’s Power 50 in 2022 for the influence on the future of Worcester’s workforce as the leader of QCC.
