Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester is partnering with Worcester incubator Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives and biopharmaceutical company AbbVie, which has an outpost in the city, to pilot an entry-level Biomanufacturing On-Ramp Workshop intended to help encourage participants to entry the biomanufacturing industry pipeline.
The pilot program launched in October.
Central Massachusetts saw 7.9% growth in biomanufacturing jobs in 2020, QCC said in Monday’s announcement. The region is reportedly home to more than 60 biotech companies.
The pilot program is 10-weeks long and is serving close to a dozen non-native English speakers, per QCC. Students will undergo training in basic wrap-around soft skills before learning about biomanufacturing content and industry terminology. The program will culminate with resume creation support and mock interviews.
The program is currently funded through the Massachusetts Office of Business Development and MBI, with plans to expand the model through different funding sources in the future.
