Those who want to become machinists or quality assurance workers in manufacturing will have a smoother way of getting there starting this fall, when Quinsigamond Community College will begin a new phase of its partnership with the statewide manufacturing credentialing program.
In a press release sent out Wednesday, the Worcester college said anyone who completes the third level of the Manufacturing Advancement Center Workforce Innovation Collaborative (MACWIC) curriculum can receive 14 college credits towards the new Manufacturing Technology: Applied Manufacturing Certificate. After that, students can complete five online advanced manufacturing classes to earn their certificate.
Students who want to earn an associate’s degree in Manufacturing Technology - Applied Manufacturing Option, which prepares people to work in front-line supervisory roles as machinists and quality assurance supervisors, can use their certificate towards that as well. Students with a certificate and Level 4 MACWIC certification -- which requires 800 hours of successful on the job training -- can earn 12 college credits towards the associate degree.
