The construction of Quinsigamond Community College’s QuEST (Quinsigamond Engineering, Science and Technology) Center is one step closer to completion, as the school celebrated the last phase of the building’s steel construction with a “topping out” ceremony.
The ceremony marks the last steel beam being raised into place at the highest point of construction. The beam is typically decorated with a small evergreen tree and an American flag before being raised.
“We’re delighted to hit this milestone because it means that we’re one step closer to our goal of being able to serve more students with a state-of-the-art facility, which will in turn feed the local economy with highly skilled workers that are needed in the STEM fields,” QCC President Gail Carberry said in a statement.
When it is completed in early 2016, the 30,000-square-foot QuEST Center will allow the school to expand offerings in the areas of biotechnology, biomedical engineering, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, electromechanical technology, robotics and energy utility technology, according to the school.
