Puerto Rican restaurant in Worcester closes

La Casa Del Mofongo was located on the corner of Main Street and May Street, adjacent to PennyWise Market. Both properties are owned by Michael and Rae Ann Maranda.

La Casa Del Mofongo, a Puerto Rican restaurant on the corner of Main Street and May Street in Worcester, announced in a Facebook post it was closing on Aug. 7, after reopening in June from a prolonged closure.
The storefront at 898 Main Street is now vacant.
Michael and Rae Ann Maranda have owned the property since 2005 when they bought the parcels for $650,000, according to the Worcester County Registry of Deeds.
Michael Maranda is also the owner of PennyWise Market at 3 May St. He was unavailable for comment on Thursday.
In April 2019, the restaurant’s then manager, Francisco Ortiz-Rivera, was arrested with 10 others for opioid trafficking, according to an archived press release on Mass.gov.
