Protonex Contract For Faster, More Powerful Drones

Southborough fuel cell maker Protonex Technology Corp. has received a nearly $600,000 contract from the U.S. Navy.

The contract charges Protonex with the advanced development of fuel cell systems to power small unmanned air vehicles.

The project will focus on doubling the power density of the company’s fuel cell system for these vehicles while also increasing their power output. The results would be unmanned planes that are faster, can climb and maneuver better and carry heavier loads.

The contract is with the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory and builds upon Protonex’s existing portfolio of work for the military.
