Unitil Corp., the New Hampshire-based utility that provides electricity and natural gas to parts of North Central Massachusetts, increased its profits 71 percent in 2011, to $16.4 million, compared to $9.6 million last year.
The improved bottom line came despite a decline in operating revenue to $352.8 million, down from $358.4 million in 2010.
The company attributed the increased earnings to higher natural gas and electric sales margins.
